About this deal

I couldn’t put this book down! I usually take about 2 weeks to finish a book with my crazy schedule, I finished it in 5-6 days. I’m not a book expert by any means but this book was seriously consuming More often than not, family stories turn out to be etched in sand rather than granite. Even the parts we think are true-even the parts about ourselves-crumble under scrutiny. These are the lies we tell everyone who knows us. These are the lies we tell ourselves. Right." He paused for a moment. "I'll be working with Lisa tonight," he said, referring to one of the surgeons who was a good friend of both of ours. "Can I tell her about the Pollywog?"

The next 60% of the book now examines how two VERY different people have ended up married to each other, and why each will react differently to this confession. As the lies build up and Sarah is presented with the perfect opportunity to get Freddy off the hook, she is faced with a terrifying decision . . .

And then we have Clara. Poor, Clara! I loved her character so much. She is the perfect mix of suspicious and trusting, hopeful and discouraged, confused and intelligent. Everyone should want a significant other like Clara. She questions the things we all would, but defaults to being trusting. She can’t turn her feelings off and on just because she has learned something new about Luke. And she is dogged in her pursuit of the truth. I was team Clara, cheering her on when she discovered new clues, and pulling the covers under my chin when she was in danger. Though The Lies We Tell was more of a slowburner as far as the drama was concerned, I found myself hooked from the first few chapters. Sarah and Tom were such an unlikely couple and even though I was dying to learn more about what Freddie had done, I was still invested in the character building. As Jane Corry asks the question of whether a parent should shoulder the blame if their child commits a terrible crime, the insight into the parents here helped develop the tension. As we learn about the upbringings of Sarah and Tom, and the mistakes they have made in their lives, it would be easy to blame them, but would it be fair? The hard-learned lesson here: no matter how forcefully that opening sentence grabs you by the throat and demands your attention, it’s not indicative of the entire experience you’re about to embark on. Not for this reader anyway. In fact, sometimes the difference between loving and simply liking a book comes down to execution and style, which we all know is tied to personal preference. What I absolutely loved is the thought-provoking theme of how far a mother can go to protect one’s child especially when faced with a situation that you have already endured. Sarah and Toms son Freddy came home saying he'd done something terrible. Begging them not to tell the police.

About Sharon James

Tom and Sarah have married for the wrong reasons- and each has come to the realization that they have married the wrong person.

THE LIES WE TOLD by Diane Chamberlain | Goodreads

For most of the novel we have a duel narrative from both Sarah and Tom, then Corry stops writing Tom’s point of view. I thought this was a strange thing to do, and I found it very jarring when we’d previously been given both points of view. If it was to imply his opinion didn’t matter anymore, I couldn’t care for Sarah’s either and wish she stopped writing hers as well. Thank you to Berkeley Publishing Group and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own. This slow burning domestic drama is an emotional character driven mystery asking the question of how far a mother should be prepared to go to protect her child. The effects of prolonged lying in a relationship will be devastating and eventually blow this family apart. The narrative is told in two time lines, that of the past as well as the present time where a man is on trial for murder in Truro Crown Court. The novel is well paced and while it takes a little time to see how these two threads link up, both stories make for absorbing reading. The event that destroys the family will in the end prove to be transformative for all of them and during the course of the novel each of the characters, Tom, Sarah and Freddie, will not only learn to face their past mistakes but also to accept themselves and their flaws. Perhaps he had too much to drink and slept it off at a mate's flat, or he worked late and fell asleep at the office.

Freddie a fifteen year old boy comes home in the early hours of the morning and confesses to his parents that he has just killed someone. I can't help but think this will be playing on my mind a lot for at least the next few days, and if this is anything like some of the psychological suspense sorts of books I've read recently, may give me some rather weird and vivid dreams too! Jane Corry knygos visada mane labai įtraukia. Ir ši naujausia knyga "Mūsų melas" labai patiko. Labai aktuali tema apie šeimą, santuoką, santykius, vaiko auginimas ir begalinė mamos meilė vieninteliam vaikui. Bandžiau galvoti ką daryčiau būdama vietoj Saros. Ir tikrai nežinau ką daryčiau... Tom and Sarah could not have been more different. Tom had been educated at boarding school, and lived by routines and tidiness and was never impulsive. Sarah on the other hand, had been born in a commune and lived in chaos and clutter. He felt compelled to care for her, and once he had kissed her, she saw stars like never before. They asked each other about their pasts, and the lies began. Of course, they married. They didn’t know better. The Lies We Tell is one of my most anticipated thrillers of 2022, especially after Katie Zhao's exhilarating release, How We Fall Apart, last year. Unfortunately, this novel didn't live up 100% for me. There were a few areas of improvement that I would hope would happen from How We Fell Apart to The Lies We Tell in terms of character development and storytelling, but I didn't really see those improvements happen.
